Also known as Urad Dal Ladoo, is a traditional South Indian sweet made from roasted urad dal (black gram), jaggery & Ghee. The urad dal is dry roasted until it becomes golden brown and then ground into a fine powder. Jaggery, a natural sweetener made from concentrated sugarcane juice, is melted and combined with the powdered urad dal. The mixture is then shaped into round laddus (balls) by hand.
Sunnundalu are known for their distinct nutty flavor, and they are often prepared during festivals, especially in South India. These laddus are considered a nutritious treat as urad dal is a good source of protein and iron. The simplicity of the ingredients and the ease of preparation contribute to the popularity of sunnundalu as a traditional and wholesome sweet in South Indian cuisine.
